Hieroglyph defines relative (triangulated) position between inside and outside angles simultaneously. The geometry of the symbol is very precise to what it is illustrating. Hold angular relation so position can be established relative to a boundary, either inside, or outside of its relation

MEANS: HOLD PATTERN

Hold the minimum crossing needed to establish a pattern, which can then either propagate or unravel. The geometry is again very explicit in what it is depicting. Any less crossings, this could not be considered a pattern. If the rope were not crossed, then the pattern could not be considered held
